The Ghostbusters' Car, The Ectomobile, For Collectors

Do you remember the Ghostbusters' car? Who could forget it? That hugely popular movie car, the Ectomobile, was a used 1959 Cadillac Miller-Meteor that had seen life previously as an ambulance.

In the first Ghostbusters movie, the Ecto-1, as it was also known, was purchased for a high price, considering its state of repair. The purchaser, Ray Stantz, actually says in the movie that it needed "suspension work and shocks, brakes, brake pads, lining, steering box, transmission, rear end..., new rings, mufflers, a little wiring...."

The Official Ghostbusters Video Trailer

This short movie trailer includes a short clip of the Ghostbusters car. Be warned, if you have memories of the 1980s and the Ghostbusters, this trailer will leave you smiling and more than singing the Ghostbusters song. "Who you going to call..."

Once the car was restored, the Ecto-1 boosted several distinctive and memorable features, inside and out, including a special device for carrying the proton packs and a very distinctive siren. The car is white, although it was originally supposed to be black, and features the now-iconic Ghostbusters logo done in red and white.

The Ghostbusters used the Ecto-1 to carry the equipment required to carry out their duties exterminating ghosts as parapsychologists.

The first Ghostbuster movie was made in 1984. Since then, there have been two other movies from another movie studio and a stream of very popular and now collectible merchandise.

On this page? Find five excellent Ecto-1 themed gift ideas. If you have always wanted to own your very own Ectomobile, now is your chance!

The original script, written by Dan Aykroyd, started with the Ecto-mobile coming out of the Ghostbusters headquarters.

Hallmark's ECTO-1 2009 Christmas ornament is considered a good replication of the original movie car and would make a great Christmas gift for an enthusiast. It is a much sought after piece though so be warned that it has escalated in price since it was first sold in 2009.

Originally, the Ectomobile was black, but a black car was hard to see at night so they changed it to white.

A Ghostbusters Car - Made out of Lego!

Custom Designed, This Car Was Crafted Long Before Lego's New Kit

Long before there was a hint of a Ghostbusters Lego car in the air, I stumbled across this Ecto 1. It was made and designed by orion_pax. He says that this car is what took him back to 'playing' with Lego and that he cannot imagine ever being prouder of another Lego build. I agree. It was a pretty impressive recreation, wasn't it?

Lego Set 21108

LEGO Ghostbusters Ecto-1 is a set that was released in 2014. It was created as a result of Lego's Ideas Members program ( formerly known as CUUSOO.) That means that it was suggested as a possible kit and eventually chosen to be made into a set when 10,000 or more members voted for it.

This Lego version of the car comes complete with four mini-figures and all of the equipment you will need to hunt ghost. It also has a removable roof, tracking computer and seats. The accompanying booklet features instructions for building the car as well as information from behind-the-scenes of the movie.

It has 508 pieces and is recommended for individuals aged ten and up.

The LEGO Ghostbusters Ecto-1 is a fabulous gift idea for someone who loves Ghostbusters and who would enjoy building one of the most memorable movie cars ever.

A scene that was cut from the movie featured a policeman trying to give the Ectomobile a ticket. The car, however, would not let him.

Ghostbusters Legion #1 Comic Book

This is the first book in a four issue mini series that takes place six months after the first film. Featuring an all-new Ecto-1 cover, this is the hard to find second printing. Typically, second printings have much smaller print runs. The cover is an homage to the poster for the 1983 movie adaptation of Stephen King's Christine.
