Pottermore: Enter The Online World of Harry Potter

POTTERMORE. The excitement surrounding J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter project swirled for quite awhile. Fans speculated about what exactly Pottermore would be.

What just might have been the most carefully guarded Harry Potter secret ever is finally out. J.K. Rowling announced to the world on June 23, 2011, exactly what Pottermore is. On this page, you will learn more about Pottermore, find the answer to some burning questions about Pottermore and also discover some more fun Harry Potter resources.

The level of interest in Pottermore was so intense that the site was overwhelmed (or I suppose simply crashed) and unable to process the massive number of people who wanted to register their email address simply to be notified when registration for Pottermore was available. Imagine the excitement when Pottermore finally arrived in October of 2011.

What Is Pottermore?

J.K. Rowling told the world what Pottermore is on June 23, 2011.

In her announcement released June 23, 2011, J.K. Rowling said that Pottermore would be a brand-new online reading experience. She expanded that Pottermore would share the same story with one very important ingredient added and that is YOU. You join the story in a "safe, unique, online reading experience."

Pottermore would also become the first source for Harry Potter digital audio and ebooks.

The London Telegraph said that Pottermore "represents a significant landmark for digital publishing." This was the first time an author had taken her books and worked for a year to create an online experience that would use the best of what the web had to offer and that will not be simply her manuscript available online.
