The Titanic Memorial Cruise: 100th Anniversary Voyage (2012)

Updated on October 24, 2014

Learn More About The Titanic Memorial Cruise

THE TITANIC MEMORIAL CRUISE was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for Titanic enthusiasts to journey back in time to the early 1900s. On April 8, 2012, Miles Morgan Travel recreated the itinterary of the Titanic exactly as it was planned, 100 years earlier.

Passengers set sail from Southhampton and, on the 100th anniversary of the day of the sinking of the Titanic, rested at the spot where the Titanic went down for a special memorial service. They then travelled on to the Titanic's original destination, New York, with a special stop at Halifax along the way.

This was a historic voyage aboard the MS Balmoral which featured elegant cabins, world class cuisine and a historical itinerary packed with diverse activities. The size of the ship, facility and crew were all comparable to those of the Titanic right down to the original 1,309 passengers.

On this page, learn a bit more about how the Titanic Memorial Cruise turned out. No, I didn't travel on the anniversary cruise but I was fascinated by it and have gathered a page full of resources about the journery for you here right here on this page.

A Historic Re-creation Of The Sailing of the Titanic

"The Titanic still grips the imagination of people throughout the world and this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be part of a unique cruise packed with interest for those with a fascination for the Titanic story," he said. "The whole voyage will be steeped in Titanic history. The food served will match the sumptuous menus on the original voyage; the entertainment will include music and dancing in the style featured in those glorious times and there will be a chance to hear first hand from historians who have studied the Titanic story." ~~ Miles Morgan of Miles Morgan Travel

The Titanic Memorial Cruise Book

Titanic Memorial Cruise Book
Titanic Memorial Cruise Book

In conjunction with this sailing, there was a book produced, called The Titanic Memorail Cruise. It is available in two versions, one of which was a strictly limited boxed book produced. Within the covers of the book is information about the memorial cruise that included many details about the sailing as well as history of the Titanic. The limited edition version of the book was packaged with a numbered Titanic Memorial Cruise coin as well as a certificate of authenticity that it was indeed one of just 2012 copies produced.

One of these books has been sold on Amazon.com but, given its extremely limited production number, I would not expect to find a limited edition copy there very often. However, to see if one has become available, you can click here Alternatively, you can check the following eBay listings to see if a book or any other interesting memorabilia is available.

The Heart of the Titanic 'Love Lasts Forever' necklace is not associated with the Titanic Memorial Cruise but is still a lovely piece of memorabilia. It features Swarovski crystals in a silver plated setting.

Was The Titanic Memorial Cruise A Vacation or A Solemn Occasion?

What do you think? Was the Titanic Memorial Cruise a vacation or a solemn occasion? A case of disaster tourism or a beautiful tribute to those who lost their lives aboard the Titanic?

Titanic: Music from the Movie Soundtrack

Some consider the Titanic soundtrack one of the best made and I agree that it is indeed, very moving and very well done. Does music from this soundtrack bring tears to your eyes or maybe even make the hair on the back of your neck stand up?

Titanic: Music as Heard on the Fateful Voyage - Take a journey back in time to the days with this Titanic CD.

Titanic: Music as Heard on the Fateful Voyage is a recreation of the music that played by the White Star Orchestra on the night of the Titanic’s sinking. They started playing for the first and second class passengers as part of an ordinary evening but wound up playing on the deck as the Titanic went down.

Tickets for the Titanic Memorial Cruise apparently ranged from about $5,000 to $12,000 and the premier suites sold out. I have read that the final cabins were sold at a reduced price.

This bathrobe is an exact replica of the robes supplied to first class passengers when the Titanic sailed. This one was made for the 1997 movie and is made of 100 percent cotton from Turkey. Available in men's or women's sizes through a seller on eBay.
